JDanvers – Berkshire, NY

It ain't all about the camera, but — should something cool present itself to me, I'll shoot it! :)

Busy weekend…     check out the shot below (from my flickr photo stream)

Full Speed Ahead…

Knobby Acres Hare Scrambles Races this past Sunday in Cortland, N.Y.

I had shot all that I had come to shoot from this event and was making my way back towards the parking area when I decided to get a little creative since there were still guys out on course.  A little something interesting about these events and “unique” (if you will) for sports shooting. I have found my weapons of choice for these events to NOT be a long lens but rather my 24-70mm f2.8 and my handy SB-800 flash. I’m shooting on an FX body too so that 24mm really is 24mm. I’ve also discovered that I’m spending more & more time in manual mode when shooting these events (as opposed to a defacto aperture priority mode). So it’s all good. The ability to get ~really~ close to the riders as they pass by, coupled with the cool look that the lens delivers can be sweet. :) So anyway — back to playing. I’m headed out and I figure – what the hell – I’ll throttle the shutter speed down from the flash sync of 1/320 down to . . . oh – how about 1/30th. Tried a few there — adjust flash and exposure compensation… thats a little to slow — bump it up a bit — 1/50th. Ah ha!! Now we’re starting to get some cool effects. This is one of those – kinda cool huh? :)

Strobist: one SB-800 hotshoe mounted, ttl, fp, bl – white bounce card pulled out and head angled up at 40′ish degree angle. Slow rear curtain sync.

This photo, and many more from this event can be seen and purchased here.

A shot from the Chris Thater Crit, and last but not least – one from one of the Mighty Micro’s Pee Wee football game..  :)

Cards Football 2010

Newark Valley Football Fans – here’s your wallpaper for your computers for the next couple of months!

This is high resolution and printable too — have at it!  Print it up and post ‘em up on bulletin boards, telephone poles, buildings, etc all over town!  :)

Lets go Cards!!
(both – the HS and Pee Wee Cards! )

Coming home from a rather crappy day at work I was 90% sure that I caught a glimpse of what appeared to be a lot of “red” on one of the fields at the school as I was driving home.  An hour later, some food in my belly, and the days events at work switched off . . . I ask my wife if she wants to head down to the school as I’m thinking that the boys are down there practicing.  I grab my camera and off we go . . .

:)   Football BaBy!!  It’s almost here – and I can’t wait!  :)
Click on the image below to view a small gallery of shots from the practice session.

Some pics from Saturday’s ABA BMX Nationals event @Cedar BMX down near Clark Summit, PA. I didn’t attend the entire race – got there late due to a late start from home, and left early due to other commitments. BMX’ers – please feel free to share / let others know that these are online and available! :)

Click on any of the images to be taken directly to my flickr stream if you wish to view them in there.

There will be more forthcoming — I wanted to share this one in particular because the guys expression on his face is just great!  I’ll update this post when I have the entire gallery posted.  In the meantime though…  :)

( update )  The photo’s are all available for viewing and purchase here.

They say a picture can be worth a thousand words . . .

Pics from the Friday night races posted.  I missed most, if not all of the 1st set of moto’s due to a “technical glitch” (dead batteries in my radio triggers — those things I use to remotely trip the flashes — you know.  <ooops>  *grin*)  So — off to the local drug store to get some.  Come back, get the flashes setup, dial in exposure & camera settings, etc….  capture most of the rest of the races.  Click here to view ‘em. :)

The BMX races were from last night.

Earlier this afternoon we were up @the dam in Whitney Point (Dorchester Park) and I captured a few picks of the seagulls that hang out there begging for food…    check ‘em out.  :)
